The central hub of this facility fosters innovative connections among cutting edge researchers working in ocean engineering and autonomous underwater vehicle development by providing inviting, tech enabled huddle spaces as well as open gathering spaces that can be converted for special events.

Inspired by the mystery and dramatic illumination of underwater caves, meticulously detailed linear luminaires are integrated into the millwork of the huddle spaces to provide AV friendly, glare-free task lighting and invite occupants to spontaneously collaborate in these semi-private areas. Multimodal lighting preset systems provide intuitive control for casual users as well as targeted control for facilities personnel during special events.

This project won the 2024 Award for Built Design Excellence from the Boston Society of Architects.
